Good Futures Accelerator

Mid councils and congregations are facing significant shifts that demand creative responses, especially in the realm of property stewardship. The PC(USA) through the Office of Innovation has partnered with Rooted Good to provide visionary leaders and congregations with pioneering pathways to address property concerns by engaging communities through social enterprise.

The Good Futures Accelerator is a dynamic and proven course that empowers congregations to align money and mission by exploring how to creatively use their church buildings and property to further their mission and build financial resilience. This engaging process aids in discerning how to steward God’s land and properties for community benefit, develop social enterprises as part of your Gospel mission, and diversify economic models for a new era.

Our new partnership with Rooted Good is making PC(USA) editions of The Good Futures Accelerator Course/Discernment Process and new How To guides (see below) available to midcouncils and congregations.

This seven-session, self-guided course has been field-tested by over 100 congregations, including several PC(USA) congregations. Its creative and gamified approach promotes deep learning, new ideas, and practical possibilities. Download the Good Futures Accelerator overview here

The Presbyterian Mission Agency (PMA) and colleagues from other PC(USA) agencies have teamed up with Rooted Good to offer PC(USA) mid councils and congregations a 50% discount for the Good Futures Accelerator course.

The Good Futures Accelerator is normally $750. As a PC(USA) mid council, congregation or ministry you can order the PC(USA) edition for $375.

“The shape of congregational ministry and the use of church buildings and land is shifting radically. Cleghorn’s Building Belonging offers an inspiring vision of how affordable housing development and church partnerships can come together to create deep community and new possibilities. This book is a must-read for any congregation or leader considering church-based affordable housing!”

—Rev. Mark Elsdon, editor of “Gone for Good?
Negotiating the Coming Wave of Church Property Transition”

By examining the theological and sociological dimensions propelling congregations toward a radical transformation of their material and relational landscapes, “Building Belonging” by PC(USA) pastor John Cleghorn weaves together narratives, insights, and experiences from diverse congregations at the forefront of the church movement that’s reshaping our neighborhoods. Cleghorn also provides a roadmap for communities to initiate transformative processes, leveraging their unique abilities and resources to tackle significant local issues.

A free, downloadable congregational guide that helps groups enact the innovative strategies outlined in the book is available from the publisher at wjkbooks.com/BuildingBelonging.

Proceeds from the sale of this book will be donated to Easter’s Home at Caldwell Presbyterian Church.
