Niger
Presbyterian World Mission has been working to support our partner, the Evangelical Church in the Republic of Niger, to spread the Good News of the Gospel in Niger. Holistic evangelism is very important to the church in Niger. The church has placed a special emphasis on building primary schools, teaching literacy and basic health skills, establishing health clinics and encouraging youth to enter health professions, empowering women especially in the area of agriculture and small business, and organizing and training youth and young adults.

About our work
Jim McGill works with both the Evangelical Church of the Republic of Niger (EERN) and the Presbyterian Church of South Sudan (PCOSS) in their clean water and sanitation programs. He works to ensure sustainability at the community and family levels and to make sure that the church is a strong presence in rural development. Jodi McGill will be working in an EERN clinic in Niamey, Niger, assisting in the primary health care programs of the EERN, and will be teaching nursing students when the church’s nursing school in Niamey opens. You can find out more about their ministry on their profile page, which can be found here.
The Evangelical Church in the Republic of Niger was founded in the 1920s by American missionaries. In the past two decades, the church has made strong efforts to establish new ties with Reformed and Presbyterian churches in West Africa and around the world. With about 16,000 members, the Evangelical Church is the largest Christian body in Niger, which is predominantly Muslim. Despite being a small minority, Christians in Niger are often viewed positively for the education, health, and community development projects they run. Niger is often considered one of the least-developed countries in the world, and the hot and arid climate makes food security a constant struggle.
There is new interest in creating a Niger Mission Network, which would be a forum for PC(USA) presbyteries, congregations, and individuals supportive of mission in Niger. If you would like to be part of this network, please contact Josh at joshua.heikkila@pcusa.org.
Pray for and communicate with the mission co-worker. Consider making a contribution to one of the following mission co-workers.
