Community Engagement

Churches and other worshiping communities are integral to their neighborhoods when they provide vital spaces for connection and partnership. Presbyterians are called to love their neighbors, to welcome strangers, and to serve others, in this way sharing the good news of Jesus Christ.

There are many ways that Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) churches and worshiping communities work beyond the walls of their sanctuaries and meeting places to benefit their wider communities. Some exemplify this love, service, and hospitality through:

  • Programs for the unhoused or food insecure,
  • Spaces for recovery and community groups to meet,
  • Enrichment activities for children, youth, and elders,
  • Support to local and national nonprofits, and
  • Grants and microfinance loans, where congregations encourage social entrepreneurship and support local initiatives.
