If you’re curious about how the Giving Catalog can support your community’s mission, look no further than Light of Hope Presbyterian Church in Marietta, Georgia, for inspiration.

A community church with a global reach

At Light of Hope, the Care and Compassion Ministry Team drives the congregation’s mission work both locally and globally. Each year, the team selects items from the Giving Catalog to support Presbyterian mission and ministry, choosing items like sewing machines, gardening and irrigation tools and livestock to help create lasting impact in communities around the world.

And their efforts don’t end there. The Care and Compassion team also offers and prepares monthly meals for vulnerable community members and assembles Blessing Bags for those experiencing homelessness.

Team members describe their efforts as answering God’s call to build a global community — called not only to experience God’s love, but to share it and serve as compassionate messengers of hope.

The Rev. Stephanie Bishop says, “The Giving Catalog allows the members of Light of Hope to see tangible needs that have already been discerned, and to be a partner in offering relief. We’re honored to be the hands and feet of Christ from afar, showing love to people we will never meet.”

Small gifts create global impact

Every contribution through the Giving Catalog helps support the mission and ministry of the PC(USA), allowing us to work with our partners who are already leading efforts in their own communities.

Like in South Sudan, where a sewing machine helped stitch together a new future for Nyalong Riak and her four children, with help from Hope Restoration South Sudan.

In Uganda, our partner Action for Rural Women’s Empowerment is supporting women farmers as they learn property law and claim title to their ancestral land, preserving their livelihoods for generations to come.

And in Nicaragua, where our partner organization, Asofénix Nicaragua, engaged with the community to develop solar-powered water systems to transform the health and dignity of more than 130 people.

Every congregation that supports the Giving Catalog — regardless of their size or gift amount — helps keep this mission work going.

“The Giving Catalog provides a direct path to support for our global neighbors and our mission partners. The gifts are practical, intended to help create sustainable change for a lasting impact where it’s needed most,” said the Rev. Wilson Kennedy, Associate Director, Stewardship and Funds Development for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).
