In 1950, the United Presbyterian Church of North America appointed Richard G. Gibson to a three-year term in Egypt to teach English at Assiut College. In 1953, he returned to the United States and attended Pittsburgh-Xenia Theological Seminary. Following his graduation and ordination in 1956, he was reappointed to Egypt by the Board of Foreign Missions of the UPCNA. From 1957 to 1959, he served on the faculty of Assiut College. In 1959, he was assigned to the Evangelical Theological Seminary in Cairo, and at the same time began work as assistant treasurer of the American Mission. In 1966, he set up an office for property records. From 1971 to 1986, he was the director of the Christian Center for Audio-Visual Services in Cairo. From 1986 until his retirement in 1994, he was assigned to the Communication Department of the Middle East Council of Churches in Limassol, Cyprus. From 1994 to 1995, he was a mission volunteer for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) at the St. George Computer Language Center, Coptic Orthodox Church, Shobra El-Khema, Egypt.
Collection consists of extensive correspondence from Gibson to his parents and friends, and a large body of audio-visual material created during his tenure in the Middle East Council of Churches Communication Department.
