Guide to the Ralph B. Nesbitt Papers

Ralph Beryl Nesbitt as born in Tunnelton, Pennsylvania in 1890. He graduated from Princeton University in 1914 and taught for two years before going on to graduate Princeton Theological Seminary in 1919. He was ordained by the Presbytery of Philadelphia in that year. In 1920 the Board of Foreign Missions assigned him to the Punjab Mission, and he and his bride, Agnes Torborg Swenson, sailed for India in that year. The Nesbitts resigned from the BFM in 1931 and upon their return Ralph Nesbitt became assistant pastor at Central Presbyterian Church in Summit, New Jersey. In 1939 he became pastor of the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church of New York City, a post which he held until his retirement in 1962.
Record Group 153 consists of sermon notes, 1931-1939, from Nesbitt’s years at Central Presbyterian Church as well as records of marriage services, 1932-1950, and funerals, 1932-1937.
