Guide to the Elisha Yale Papers

Elisha Yale was born in Lee, MA, on June 15, 1780. He was licensed to preach in 1803, and that year he was called to the Kingsboro Presbyterian Church in New York. He was ordained the following year by the Old School branch of the PCUSA. Yale remained pastor of the Kingsboro Church and of the nearby Gloversville parish until he resigned in 1852. He died the following year.
Record Group 141 includes sermons, journals, memoranda, discourses, and miscellaneous records of Kingsboro church.
Significant segments of the Yale manuscripts are written, in part, in Pitman shorthand.
Many of the manuscripts in this collection are bound in pamphlet form. Numbers at the beginning of a year are sometimes bound with those of the end of the previous year.
Elisha Yale is apparently no relation to the family of the Elisha Yale of Yale University.
