Assembly Mandate
The Special Committee was formed at the 225th General Assembly (2022), with the approval of Item TWE-08 to
“Form a special committee to write a new confession for the PC(USA) to be considered for inclusion in the Book of Confessions. This special committee shall be formed by no later than December 31st, 2024.”
with the following comment:
- Commending the work of the Synod of the Northeast, we recommend that the work of “For Such a Time as This” be taken under advisement in the creation of a new confession.
- In accordance with the Book of Order and the commendable work of the nominating committee, we request that special consideration be made to represent communities mentioned in “For Such a Time as This” from the Synod of the Northeast and that they consider voices who are not yet represented.
- Include the rationale of TWE-01, which is complementary information on Interfaith relations, into the work of the new confession.
Membership Composition
This special committee is to be comprised of 16 at-large members.
