The second Leader Formation Webinar of 2025 is scheduled to take place from 7 p.m. through 8:30 p.m. Eastern Time on Thursday, July 17, with a sign-up deadline of July 9. The free event, which is geared toward Presbyterian ruling elders and deacons, is titled “Pondering God with Presbyterians: What Does It Mean to Say, ‘Jesus Saves’?” It will be led by Columbia Presbyterian Seminary Theology Professor, the Rev. Dr. Martha Moore-Keish.

According to the event description, the upcoming webinar will tackle the quintessential questions of salvation through the lens of Reformed theology.

“As PC(USA) ruling elders and deacons who seek to learn more about our own Presbyterian beliefs and faith, this webinar will explore the tricky question of what we mean by ‘salvation,’ with particular attention to the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus.  What does Jesus save us from? What does he save us for?  And how does this happen?”

Moore-Keish is the J.B. Green Professor of Theology at Columbia Theological Seminary. She has a doctorate from Emory University and previous served in the PC(USA) Office of Theology and Worship and at Yale Divinity School before joining the faculty at Columbia Seminary. She has written multiple books with a particular focus on sacramental and liturgical theologies. She also serves on the PC(USA) General Assembly’s special committee to write a new confession.

Moore-Keish also taught the previous Leader Webinar Formation in March, which focused on three major doctrines of Presbyterian theology: the Trinity, justification by grace through faith, and predestination. That webinar had nearly 400 registrants and was highly regarded by participants for its deep and enriching content. The recording is available to watch online.

The Leader Formation webinars are organized and facilitated by Martha Miller, a ruling elder who works as the manager of ministry education and support within Mid Council Ministries. They’re offered at no cost to participants and are funded by per capita dollars from congregations across the denomination.

The webinars are also made available in multiple languages through simultaneous translation, based on requests made during the registration process. In order to allow time for these arrangements to be made, there is a deadline of July 9 to register for the webinar. A recording will be available in English after the event and can be accessed without advanced registration.
