About Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), A Corporation

The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), A Corporation (“A Corp”) is a corporate entity of the General Assembly. Established in 1799, it holds funds and title to property. A Corporation provides business services for the PC(USA). It is accountable to the General Assembly and works closely with all PC(USA) agencies. A Corporation stands at the intersection of the business world and the church.

The A Corporation has assets of over $500 million. It is the official employer of over 400 staff, including overseas mission personnel. The staff of A Corp is the Administrative Services Group (ASG). ASG provides the services of Finance/Accounting, Legal and Risk Management, Human Resources, Global Language Resources, Research Services, and Ministry Engagement and Support. It also provides support services such as Information Technology and Distribution Services. ASG’s goal is to help ministries flourish through its ministry of administration.

The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), A Corporation is the principal Corporation of and established by the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) to facilitate the management of its corporate affairs, as provided in the Form of Government of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), and was originally formed on March 28, 1799 by Act of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), A Corporation is subject to the Constitution of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and the direction of the General Assembly. The General Assembly may alter, amend, expand, revoke or otherwise change any authority granted to the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), A Corporation. No amendment or change to the bylaws of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), A Corporation shall be effective until approved and ratified by the General Assembly.

A Corp is governed by an 14-member board of directors, elected by the General Assembly using a process outlined in the A Corp bylaws. The board has the following representation for directors:

  • Committee on the Office of the General Assembly: one person
  • Foundation of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) Board of Trustees: one person
  • Presbyterian Publishing Corporation Board: one person
  • Racial Equity Advisory Committee: one person
  • At-Large Directors: four people
  • Presbyterian Mission Agency Board: one person
  • Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) Investment and Loan Corporation Board: one person
  • Presbyterian Women Board: one person
  • Advocacy Committee for Women and Gender Justice: one person
  • Board of Pensions Board: one person
  • Stated Clerk ex officio

Financial Reports

Funding for the work of ASG comes from three sources:  the Office of the General Assembly (OGA), the Presbyterian Mission Agency (PMA), and contracts for services (agreements with PILP, PPC, PW and a tenant lease).

Administrative Services Group

A Corporation, through the staff of the Administrative Services Group (ASG), provides the services of Finance, Accounting, Reporting, Treasury, Legal Services, Human Resources, Internal Audit, Global Language Resources, Information Technology, Distribution Services, Mail/Print Services, Research Services, Risk Management, Ministry Engagement and Support, and Building Services. The primary client partners of ASG are the General Assembly and its commissions, committees, and task forces, the Office of the General Assembly, and the Presbyterian Mission Agency. Services are provided on a contract basis to the Investment and Loan Program, Presbyterian Publishing Corporation, and Presbyterian Women.

Mission - The mission of the Administrative Services Group is to support client partners so that their ministries flourish.
