Recognizing the fact that television had become an effective new medium for ministry, the Board of Christian Education created an Office of Educational Television as part of its general reorganization in 1960. Educational Television was placed under the newly expanded General Division of Field Services. The Rev. Ralph Mould, a member of the National Council of Church's Broadcasting and Film Commission, served as secretary from 1960-63. The office worked with the Board of National Missions' Division of Radio and Television to study the impact of television on contemporary society and to utilize television resources in the congregation for creative educational purposes.
Record Group 79 consists of correspondence, minutes and reports from three different agencies: the National Council of Church's Broadcasting and Film Commission, the General Council's Division of Radio and Television, and the Board of Christian Education's Office of Educational Television. The files appear to be those of the secretary of the Office of Educational Television, Ralph Mould. Mould's membership in the Broadcasting and Film Commission accounts for the large bulk of those records.

The bulk of Record Group 79 dates from the Board's 1960 reorganization until 1965, although there are a few older items.

Record Group 79 contains two tapes which have been separately catalogued. They contained plays for the General Assembly: Puppet Play I, Jonah, and Puppet Play II, You Have No Idea.
Record Group 79 contains a record "What Sound Can Add to a Filmstrip" which has also been separately catalogued.
