Biographical Note
Reverend John Mark Irwin (born 1899) and Ruth Hoffman Irwin (born 1900) were appointed by the PCUSA's Board of Foreign Missions to the Persia (Iran) Mission in 1932. Until their retirement in 1965, they served primarily as evangelists at various locations in Iran, including Meshed, Hamadan, Teheran, and Sari as well as in Kabol, Afghanistan.
The Irwin Family Papers consists almost exclusively of the personal correspondence of Ruth Hoffman Irwin to her mother and daughters, 1932-1965. Limited correspondence from J. Mark Irwin covering the years 1932-1939 can also be found as well as miscellaneous items.
