Guide to the United Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A. Board of Christian Education Office of Study and Research Records

The Board of Christian Education created the Office of Study and Research in 1961 as part of a general reorganization. The office was established to encourage and facilitate continuing study, education and research activity throughout the staff. Operating as a service agency to all units and personnel, the new office aided in the orientation of new staff as well as in the continuing education and specialized training of persons serving in regular staff positions. Included in these services were provisions for attendance at established educational and training schools and events, and certain on-the-job events made available to staff. Consultative services were also provided to various units of staff to facilitate their approach to experimentation and research in a wide variety of unexplored fields. One of the major responsibilities of the office was to arrange opportunities for the staff to further its acquaintance with ideas and information crucial to their work as Christian educators, and to engage frequently in creative exchange of thinking about such issues with others in related fields of service both within the Church and beyond its institutional boundaries.
