Charles Albert Anderson was born in 1889. He completed his undergraduate work at William College in 1912 and went on to the seminary in Auburn, NY, graduating in 1916. He was married in that year to Gertrude Wright Schauffler. From 1916-1921, Anderson served as pastor at churches in New York and New Jersey. In 1921 he became pastor at the University of Pennsylvania, a post he held for ten years. In 1931 he was appointed to the presidency of Tusculum College, Greeneville, TN, and in 1942 he became president of Coe College, Cedar Rapids, IA. In 1944 Anderson became manager of the Department of History of the Presbyterian Church. He served the department in Philadelphia until his retirement in 1959.
This collection includes miscellaneous writings of Dr. Anderson, mainly notes and outlines for sermons and drafts for articles. It also includes miscellaneous items such as diplomas and newspaper clippings, and four scrapbooks covering his years at Tusculum College and his inauguration at Coe College.
