Guide to the Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A. Special Committee on the Revision of the Book of Common Worship Records
Open for research.
At the suggestion of the Rev. Henry Jackson Van Dyke, the 140th General Assembly (PCUSA) (1928) appointed a special committee to consider and if necessary to undertake revision of the Book of Common Worship, which had been in use throughout the Presbyterian Church since 1906. Dr. Van Dyke had chaired the 1903 Committee on Forms of Service which had published the original Book of Common Worship, and he was appointed chairman of the Special Committee on the Revision of the Book of Common Worship. Louis Fitzgerald Benson and other surviving members of the original committee joined Van Dyke in forming the nucleus of the new committee. The revised Book of Common Worship was published in 1932.
Record Group 66 contains minutes, reports, correspondence and manuscripts relating to the work of the committee and the publication of the revised Book of Common Worship.
