Guide to the Samuel Wear McCorkle Papers

Samuel Wear McCorkle was born in Missouri. He was ordained a minister of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in 1848, and served parishes in Texas, Missouri and Colorado as pastor and teacher. He wrote numerous articles for children for the Cumberland denominational newspapers under the pen name of "Uncle Sam." He died in June of 1885.
This collection includes a journal kept by McCorkle during an 1849-50 trip through Texas, and a book of song lyrics.
