Biographical Note
Sarah Bardwell Richards and her husband were appointed to the India Mission of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions in 1815.
In 1815, Mr. Richards and his wife Sarah were appointed to the India Mission of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions. They sailed for Calcutta in November of that year, arriving the following March. This collection consists of a journal letter kept by Mrs. Richards during the long voyage to India, detailing life on board ship and her thoughts and hopes about the work ahead.
