Winifred Shannon was appointed by the Board of Foreign Missions to the Syria Mission in 1925 where she was assigned to the American Junior College for Women. In 1937, she was transferred to the Iran Mission where she was assigned to Sage College in Teheran until 1941 when all foreign schools were closed by the Iranian government. From 1941-1944, she taught at the University of Nanking and from 1944-1945 at the Isabella Thoburn College in Lucknow, India. She retired from her work with the Church in 1952.
Record Group 165 consists of Winifred Shannon's papers, 1924-1950. Includes her diaries, 1924-1936: personal correspondence, 1930-1950; miscellaneous reports, 1934-1940; and undated photographs from the Syria and Iran missions. Materials are arranged chronologically by year.
