Frederick Schweitzer was born in Philadelphia on December 1, 1890. He graduated from Princeton University in 1915 and from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1924. He earned a doctorate from the College of the Ozarks in 1928. In 1919, Schweitzer married B. Dora Page of Philadelphia.
Schweitzer was ordained by Philadelphia North Presbytery in 1918. He served as a United States Naval chaplain on a troop ship during the last year of the First World War. From the end of the war until 1957, he served as a member of the Special Committee on Army and Navy Chaplains. From 1919-1924 he was pastor of Second Presbyterian Church, Cranbury, NJ, and from 1924-45 he was pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Ridley Park, PA.
In 1944 Schweitzer was elected moderator of the Pennsylvania Synod, and the following year he became president of Bloomfield College and Seminary, Bloomfield, NJ. He retired from Bloomfield in 1959.
Record Group 152 includes Schweitzer's diaries, sermons, lecture notes, and records of his work at Bloomfield Seminary and as synod moderator. It also includes a series of Dora Page Schweitzer's diaries.
