Training Opportunities
Commissioners and Advisory Delegates are required to complete mandatory online trainings as a prerequisite to participating in assembly committee meetings. These are available to all commissioners and advisory delegates in MyGA under the “Preparations” menu tab. These trainings include the basics of General Assembly structure, technology use during committee and plenary, parliamentary procedure, and engaging discernment with equity. There are other resources, including easy-access quick guides which outline basics to remember during service at the assembly.
Additional trainings have been made available to Synods for walking through particular MyGA components. For commissioners and advisory delegates whose synods did not elect to offer these trainings, or for those unable to attend for other reasons- contact [email protected] to register for a public version of this MyGA walk-through.
Pre-Assembly Meetings
Creating shared experiences within General Assembly communities is an important part of the preparation process. With the online format of committees, there will be little time in hallways and meeting rooms for informal conversation and gathering. In order to better get to know one another, and to practice meeting online, assembly committees will gather before officially convening to discern business on June 22, 2026. These meetings will be scheduled by the committee’s leadership team between June 8-13. While these are not required meetings, committee members are encouraged to attend and get to know their fellow commissioners and advisory delegates.
Informational Sessions
Informational Sessions are webinars held by the following groups who submit reports to the assembly: special committees and commissions, permanent/standing committees, and agencies of the General Assembly. Attendance is open to anyone who registers ahead of the session. All sessions will be recorded and posted to the GA website for later viewing. Information on available sessions and registration will be made available in late May 2026.
Online Committees June 22-24, 2026
All assembly committees will meet online. Commissioners, advisory delegates, resource persons, etc. will participate using MyGA and Zoom. Committee sessions will be livestreamed for others who are interested.
In-Person Plenaries June 28-July 2, 2026
In-person GA plenary meetings at the Baird Center in Milwaukee, WI for action on recommendations from the assembly committees. Commissioners and advisory delegates will be present in-person in Milwaukee; most other official participants (corresponding members, resource persons, etc.) may participate remotely or in-person. Observers are welcome. These sessions will be livestreamed.
Assembly Convenes Online
The General Assembly will officially convene at 8:00 a.m. Central Time on Monday, June 22 with a brief online plenary session for the full assembly to approve the docket and other key business items before assembly committees begin their work.
The assembly committees will then begin their separate meetings using Zoom and MyGA, concluding by Wednesday evening, June 24. Most committee members, and those presenting and resourcing the reports and recommendations being considered, will participate online. A core group of assembly committee leadership will be in Milwaukee with a small support team. Assembly committee meetings will be accessible to remote viewers via livestreaming.
After the conclusion of assembly committee work the assembly committee leadership teams will remain in Milwaukee to prepare their assembly committee reports.
Travel to Milwaukee
Young Adult Advisory Delegates will travel to Milwaukee on Thursday, June 25 to participate in a YAAD Orientation, scheduled to begin with dinner on Thursday and continue on Friday.
Most commissioners will travel to Milwaukee on Friday, June 26. All commissioners and advisory delegates are expected to arrive in Milwaukee before the beginning of Community Day on June 27th.
Plenaries Reconvene In-Person
The assembly will reconvene at 2:00 p.m. Central Time on Sunday, following worship in local congregations. Plenary sessions will continue Monday through Thursday to consider assembly committee reports and recommendations. The final item of business on Thursday, July 2nd will be the election of Moderators who will represent the 227th General Assembly (2026) for the next two years, concluding their term by presiding over the assembly’s business in 2028. The assembly will conclude with worship and the installation of the newly elected moderators.
All plenary sessions will be held in the Grand Ballroom of the Baird Center in downtown Milwaukee, WI. Commissioners and advisory delegates are required to present in person to participate in the assembly’s discernment.
All voting members will have assigned seats in the plenary hall. Corresponding Members and Mid Council Leaders will also have assigned seating in the hall or may choose to participate online.
All plenary sessions will be livestreamed on the GA website in English, Korean, and Spanish.
Assembly Adjourns
The assembly will conclude by approximately 1:00 p.m. (CDT) on Thursday, July 2. Most participants will travel home Thursday afternoon or evening.
Community Day
Community Day will take place June 27, 2026. It is an opportunity for any participant in the General Assembly to gather as one community before the work of discernment in plenary begins. No business meetings are scheduled on this day so that participants can fully engage with the day’s opportunities. The schedule includes a walk to end gun violence, coordinated by the Presbytery of Milwaukee and the Office of Public Witness, lunch gatherings for committee members, a town square to connect with resources across the church, and a welcome reception in the evening.
Welcome Center
Located near plenary hall for the entirety of the in-person segment of the assembly, the welcome center offers space for people to rest, be refreshed, and connect with other GA227 attendees and participants.
BIPOC & LGBTQIA+ Spaces
Throughout online committees and in-person plenary sessions, spaces will be made available for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual+ individuals to gather. These spaces will serve both as a place for these community members to share about their experiences at the assembly, and as a designated space not dominated by white, cis-hetero cultures. Information on these spaces will be made available to commissioners and advisory delegates through MyGA.
Other Opportunities for Engagement on Plenary Days
Once plenary sessions begin the afternoon of June 28, commissioners and advisory delegates will have little free time, but the meal breaks offer opportunities to meet others with similar interests at several optional ticketed events. These include luncheons sponsored by the PCUSA seminaries, a dinner on June 29 to celebrate the ministry of the Rev. Dr. Diane Moffett, and other breakfast and lunch events.
