A year ago last week, the Office of the General Assembly’s Ecumenical Ministries suffered a shock. The Reverend Robina Winbush, director of Ecumenical Relations for the PC(USA), died suddenly upon her return from the Middle East.

Winbush’s death prompted the Reverend Dr. J. Herbert Nelson, II, Stated Clerk of the General Assembly of the PC(USA), to take a fresh look at the ministry and begin discerning a new direction. In June, Dianna Wright, who had served as a member of the General Assembly Committee on Ecumenical and Interreligious Relations for six years, became, and continues to serve, as interim director.

In a recent conversation with the Stated Clerk, Nelson looks at where ecumenism is headed and how the church can move forward in this calling.
