First Thessalonians 5:17 encourages us to pray continually. Following a disaster, our best response is first to seek God's presence on behalf of those in need.

Prayers in Time of Disaster and Trouble
Prayers
God of the sojourner, you know every road those who migrate have walked and every door that closed behind them. Give them safe welcome, steady work, and neighbors who see them as kin rather than strangers. Keep their families whole and their hope alive until home means somewhere again. Amen.
Faithful God, be with the communities who have survived tornadoes as they begin the long work of rebuilding. Give them patience for what takes time and companions for what cannot be done alone. May your Spirit sustain their hope through the seasons ahead. Amen.
Loving God, we pray that your presence may be near to those who have lost their homes and much of what filled them due to wildfires. Comfort them in their grief and provide for their daily needs. Lead them gently toward a place to settle again. Amen.
God of strength, watch over those who serve in difficult and dangerous work. Give them wisdom in their decisions, rest after their labor, and care for what they carry home. Surround them with people who support them well and may they feel our gratitude. Amen.
God of Creation,
We pray for island nations as typhoons form and cyclones traverse over the seas.
Fortify shelters and steady hearts against
wind and waves.
Comfort the fearful.
Give courage to first responders.
Protect your beloved people, and may your abiding love guide all to safety.
Amen.
O God,
Our anguish and grief are too deep for words.
Embrace the families and communities
whose loved ones have been killed or wounded.
Weep with us. Hold our broken hearts.
Deliver us from this horror,
and do not let despair have the last word.
Be our hope. Be our strength. Be with us.

God of compassion,
Accompany pastors and chaplains who remain present with those facing devastating loss.
May their words bring comfort, their prayers offer refuge, and their presence kindle hope.
Root their spirits in your steadfast peace and
renew them with your grace.

God of refuge,
Draw near to all who endure winter storms
and power outages,
especially the elderly, medically vulnerable,
and our unhoused neighbors.
Grant warmth, shelter,
and the strength of community to sustain your people.
Protect and guide those working to restore power and safety.
Be our light in the waiting.
