On October 14, 2016, leading up to World Food Day, agricultural and indigenous communities from across El
Salvador came together to call for an end to the use of chemical pesticides at a national level.
Those gathered protested the harm that agrochemicals pose to human health and the health of the environment.
"We see the use of agrochemicals greatly affects the water, soil, biodiversity, the local economy and food security throughout the country," said a movement leader.
"Our aim is life. Our aim is the well being of our mother nature so that the rural and indigenous communities can lead simple and dignified lives. Have healthy quality food,"said another leader of the movement.
The Joining Hands network in El Salvador, RUMES, was an active participant in the demonstrations.
