Resolution on Just Peacemaking and the Call for International Intervention for Humanitarian Rescue (1998)

Default Resource Photo

This resolution seeks to address the growing assumption and acceptance of the idea that conflicts in the post-cold war era involving either a major violation of basic human rights or a massive degree of human suffering require the response of the international community. Amplified by the immediate nature of television broadcasting, the intensity of such crises as Bosnia, Burma, Haiti, Rwanda, and Somalia call for a Christian response to help alleviate internal upheavals and to undertake humanitarian rescue to relieve suffering and rescue dying human beings. This resolution explores the challenges posed by such contemporary situations and brings to those challenges the rich resources of the biblical and theological heritage of the Reformed traditions for moral guidance.
