Matthew 25 inspired our faith community to initiate an Anti-Racism Learning Circle in the early months of the pandemic. While we had long been committed to equality and justice, recent events raised new questions and highlighted issues of racism that some of us were previously unfamiliar with. One of the calls to action was for white people, in particular, to “get educated” on these issues and examine our own white privilege. As a group, we convened weekly to discuss readings from Layla F. Saad’s book “Me and White Supremacy,” as well as other relevant articles and videos. Living in a community with little ethnic diversity, taking time to learn together proved fruitful and helped us see that learning is an active step we can all take.
