Matthew 25 Working Group for the Presbytery of Utah

Image
Matthew 25 in the Presbytery of Utah organized a 10-week summer virtual book club using the book “Wait — Is This Racist? A Guide to Becoming an Anti-Racist Church” by Kerry Connelly, Bryana Clover and Josh Riddick. Six congregations and one person from the Los Angeles area joined to have uncomfortable conversations around the racist traditions that may be enmeshed in our churches. The struggle created a community bond, lots of discussion and new perspectives. Following the book club, a group of participants in the book study was formed to create an antiracism policy for the presbytery, which was adopted with a few expansions to include Indigenous peoples and the history of the Utah Japanese Confinement Camp, Topaz.
