Wednesday of the Second Week in Lent
Read Matthew 8:5–13
Jews in the area spoke of a teacher who performed wonders, who had the power to heal. So I gave the order: locate him and report back. As he passed through the area, I intercepted his party, explaining my situation and begging his assistance. To my astonishment, he — a Jew — offered to reroute his entire contingent to accommodate the request of a Roman soldier he’d met only moments ago. But I knew that wasn’t necessary. If I with my limited authority could set plans into motion upon a command, how much more could he accomplish? He smiled and told me to return home.
As I had expected, my servant was healed.
Jesus, give me the faith to trust you at your word.
