Everyday Faith Moments card deck now available
Card deck from PC(USA)’s Around the Table Initiative brings faith formation to everyday life
The Everyday Faith Moments card deck, a set of 60 durable, beautifully designed 4-by-6-inch cards, emerged from the Around the Table initiative of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and was spearheaded by Miatta Wilson, associate for Christian Formation in the Interim Unified Agency. The deck is available in both English and Spanish, with free downloadable samplers also accessible through the PC(USA) Store.
Each card features an engaging, repeatable faith practice on the front rooted in real-life moments, and a short Bible passage on the back to anchor the practice in Scripture. Cards are organized across four life seasons:
Ordinary Days — while playing, learning, or sharing a meal
Significant Moments — in times of celebration, change, or grief
Sabbaths — through connection, rest, and reflection
Sacred Celebrations — including Advent, Lent, and Baptism.
Each card is marked with icons for the core faith practices it explores: hospitality, prayer, service, storytelling, and retreat.
Emily Cox, founder and CEO of Comm-Unity Solutions LLC, a communications and graphic design firm that serves churches and nonprofit organizations, served as the project's designer. She created the cards, box, and tabs and also wrote the Quicksheet for parents and caregivers.
“As a mom of two, I designed these cards to be fun and whimsical while still being clear and easy to read — no searching for reading glasses required,” said Cox, who was among the first to test the resource with her own family. “I also wanted them to be hard to lose, so I gave them a unique size. Most importantly, I wanted them to invite kids into the experience, allowing them to choose a card themselves and feel engaged from the very beginning.”
Cox said her family quickly developed a rhythm using the cards at dinnertime, and the experience exceeded her expectations.
“Some nights we make it through the entire card, and other nights the very first question sparks a meaningful conversation,” she said. “The beauty of it is that it invites discussions that might not otherwise happen. It goes beyond ‘How was school today?’ and opens space for topics that are important and deep to both kids and adults.”
One exchange in particular stands out. When Cox’s family used the “Experiencing Change” card at dinner, her 9-year-old son, whom she describes as brilliant and fairly stoic, opened up about the family’s move from Texas to Colorado, which had taken place about a year earlier.
“He became emotional as he shared how hard it was to leave the only home he had ever known,” Cox said. “With tears in his eyes, he told us about sitting alone in the empty dining room of our old house and praying that God would be with him. In that moment, he found peace. I don’t know that I ever would have heard that story without this prompt, and I am so grateful for the chance to understand him more deeply.”
The baptism card prompted a different kind of revelation. After Cox shared the story of her own baptism as a 3-year-old alongside her father and older sister, her husband of nearly 12 years was astonished — he had never known.
“It was a joyful reminder that we're always learning something new about one another,” she said. “These cards really help facilitate conversations that lead to learning new things about each other. These simple yet meaningful cards are designed to fit into full schedules, bringing joy, connection and deeper faith to families during a time when we all need it most.”
Karen DeBoer, a Family and Intergenerational Faith Formation consultant based in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, was the editor for the project and helped shape its direction from the earliest stages of development.
DeBoer worked with a team of contributors chosen to represent a wide range of voices and experience. Writers on the project include Becky D’Angelo-Veitch and the Revs. James M. Potts, Danilie Hilerio, Andy Morgan and Erika Rembert Smith.
“We intentionally included multiple writers to represent diverse voices and experiences,” DeBoer said. “All have a strong background in theology. Each has experience serving the church in a variety of contexts, including church education, working with children and families with children, intergenerational ministry, pastoral ministry and more. All could relate to the assignment — to provide busy households with simple, meaningful practices to nurture faith at home.”
D’Angelo-Veitch said an advance copy of the deck arrived at exactly the right moment — as her college-aged daughter prepared to leave for a semester abroad.
“As one of the writers on this project, throughout our development of the Everyday Faith Moments Card Deck, I kept thinking how much I would have loved this resource when my now college-aged children were younger,” D’Angelo-Veitch said. “I was actually wrong in that thinking. My advance copy arrived as my younger daughter was making her final preparations to travel halfway around the world for her study abroad semester. As we opened the box and oohed and aahed about how great the cards looked, I grabbed the ‘Beginnings’ card, and we walked through it together reflecting on Scripture and sharing stories and excitement amid the trepidation around this huge milestone.”
Potts, associate pastor of Family Life at First Presbyterian Church of Monterey, California, said the cards meet families precisely where their lives are actually happening.
Potts emphasized how the cards “help families notice that the ordinary moments are already holy. We just need language and permission to see them that way.”
Potts believes that the design philosophy respects the reality of busy family schedules. “Parents, grandparents and caregivers don't need one more thing to do. They need simple ways to connect faith and life in the middle of their real schedules,” he said. “This deck offers that with warmth, playfulness and depth. If faith is a quilt, these cards help stitch the pieces of daily life into something meaningful and beautiful. And honestly? That's the kind of faith that lasts.”
