When we give handouts
but are unwilling to empower people,
forgive us, Lord of the Whip,
for bringing the marketplace to God’s house
instead of bringing God into the marketplace.
When we dispense blessings
but are hesitant to defend human rights,
forgive us, Lord of the Whip,
for bringing the marketplace to God’s house
instead of bringing God into the marketplace.
When we deplore poverty
but are reluctant to invest resources,
forgive us, Lord of the Whip,
for bringing the marketplace to God’s house
instead of bringing God into the marketplace.
When we seek power
but are remiss to serve our neighbors,
forgive us, Lord of the Whip,
for bringing the marketplace to God’s house

When we perpetuate myths
but are afraid to speak the truth,

Cuando damos limosnas
pero rehusamos empoderar a la gente,
perdónanos, Señor del Látigo,
por traer el mercado a la casa de Dios
en vez de llevar a Dios al mercado.
Cuando dispensamos bendiciones
pero vacilamos al defender los derechos humanos,
perdónanos, Señor del Látigo,
por traer el mercado a la casa de Dios

Cuando deploramos la pobreza
pero somos reacios a invertir recursos,
perdónanos, Señor del Látigo,
por traer el mercado a la casa de Dios

Cuando procuramos el poder
pero fallamos en servir a nuestro prójimo,
