Freehold, Old Scots Old Tennent Presbyterian Church
Freehold, Old Scots Old Tennent Presbyterian Church
According to the “Inventory of the Church Archives of New Jersey: The Presbyterians,” (Newark, NJ: Historical Records Survey, 1940), the Old Tennent Presbyterian Church, Freehold, New Jersey, (organized 1731) succeeded the Old Scots Presbyterian Church (organized 1690) when the older congregation’s meeting house became too remote from the Freehold community. By 1760, the older location was almost abandoned, and records were kept by the Old Tennent Church. Records from Old Scots from as early as 1730 survive as part of the records of the Old Tennent Church. This congregation continues and has not deposited records with us.
