A Prayer for Israel and Palestine

The following prayer was written by Adebisi Shofu, MDiv who is a Ruling Elder in Coastlands Presbytery. It offers her own hopes and prayerful perspective concerning the conflict unfolding in the Middle East. The Acting Stated Clerk of the PC(USA) has also offered a statement on the conflict, which you can also read here

O God, by your might and power intervene in this strife that is going on between Palestine and Israel. God breathe your calm into this dreadful situation. All those external forces who are taking sides in this conflict give them the understanding that inflaming this war will not solve anything but cause more distress and harm. Let them know that they will be affected also in untold ways. I pray Lord that you will provide the right peacemakers who have the best interests of both sides at heart to bring them to the table to talk and see the harm that has been going on for 75 years and that it is time it stopped. Remind them that they are siblings and it is time to come together. O God, pour your peace into that space, let your Spirit lead the way in bringing an end to the suffering. Hear this prayer. Amen.
