Guns to Gardens a modern expression of 'swords into plowshares'

Blacksmiths from several Guns to Gardens programs attended the recent gun violence prevention institute in Missouri

PARKVILLE, Missouri — The 2026 James Atwood Institute for Congregational Courage, presented by the Presbyterian Peace Fellowship, included several blacksmiths engaged in the Guns to Gardens movement, which has been a major component of gun violence prevention work. From groups that have dismantled and repurposed more than 1,000 guns to newcomers to the work, participants reflected on the practical and symbolic role of Guns to Gardens.
