Daily Readings

1   Canten al Señor una canción nueva;
          canten al Señor, habitantes de toda la tierra;
2   canten al Señor, bendigan su nombre;
          anuncien día tras día su salvación.
3   Hablen de su gloria y de sus maravillas
          ante todos los pueblos y naciones,
4   porque el Señor es grande
          y muy digno de alabanza:
          ¡más terrible que todos los dioses!
5   Los dioses de otros pueblos no son nada,
          pero el Señor hizo los cielos.
6   ¡Hay gran esplendor en su presencia!
          ¡Hay poder y belleza en su santuario!

7   Den al Señor, familias de los pueblos,
          den al Señor el poder y la gloria;
8   den al Señor la honra que merece;
          entren a sus atrios con ofrendas,
9   adoren al Señor en su hermoso santuario.
          ¡Que todo el mundo tiemble delante de él!

10  Digan a las naciones: "¡El Señor es Rey!"
          Él afirmó el mundo, para que no se mueva;
          él gobierna a los pueblos con igualdad.
11  ¡Que se alegren los cielos y la tierra!
          ¡Que brame el mar y todo lo que contiene!
12  ¡Que se alegre el campo y todo lo que hay en él!
          ¡Que griten de alegría los árboles del bosque,
13  delante del Señor, que viene!
          ¡Sí, él viene a gobernar la tierra,
          y gobernará a los pueblos del mundo
          con justicia y con verdad!

2 ¡Alábenlo ustedes, todos sus ángeles!
¡Alábenlo ustedes, ejércitos del cielo!
3 ¡Alábenlo, sol y luna!
¡Alábenlo ustedes, brillantes luceros!
4 ¡Alábalo tú, altísimo cielo,
y tú, agua que estás encima del cielo!

5 Alaben el nombre del Señor,
pues él dio una orden y todo fue creado;
6 él lo estableció todo para siempre,
y dictó una ley que no puede ser violada.

7 ¡Alaben al Señor desde la tierra,
monstruos del mar, y mar profundo!
8 ¡El rayo y el granizo, la nieve y la neblina!
¡El viento tempestuoso que cumple sus mandatos!
9 ¡Los montes y las colinas!
¡Todos los cedros y los árboles frutales!
10 ¡Los animales domésticos y los salvajes!
¡Las aves y los reptiles!
11 ¡Los reyes del mundo y todos los pueblos!
¡Todos los jefes y gobernantes del mundo!
12 ¡Hombres y mujeres, jóvenes y viejos!

13 ¡Alaben todos el nombre del Señor,
pues sólo su nombre es altísimo!
¡Su honor está por encima del cielo y de la tierra!
14 ¡Él ha dado poder a su pueblo!

¡Alabanza de todos sus fieles,
de los israelitas, su pueblo cercano!

¹⁵  Thus says the LORD:
     A voice is heard in Ramah,
          lamentation and bitter weeping.
     Rachel is weeping for her children;
          she refuses to be comforted for her children,
          because they are no more.
¹⁶  Thus says the LORD:
     Keep your voice from weeping,
          and your eyes from tears;
     for there is a reward for your work,
                                                            says the LORD:
          they shall come back from the land of the enemy;
¹⁷  there is hope for your future,
                                                            says the LORD:
          your children shall come back to their own country.

¹⁸  Indeed I heard Ephraim pleading:
     “You disciplined me, and I took the discipline;
          I was like a calf untrained.
     Bring me back, let me come back,
          for you are the LORD my God.
¹⁹  For after I had turned away I repented;
          and after I was discovered, I struck my thigh;
     I was ashamed, and I was dismayed
          because I bore the disgrace of my youth.”
²⁰  Is Ephraim my dear son?
          Is he the child I delight in?
     As often as I speak against him,
          I still remember him.
     Therefore I am deeply moved for him;
          I will surely have mercy on him,
                                                            says the LORD.

²¹  Set up road markers for yourself,
          make yourself signposts;
     consider well the highway,
          the road by which you went.
     Return, O virgin Israel,
          return to these your cities.
²²  How long will you waver,
          O faithless daughter?
     For the LORD has created a new thing on the earth:
          a woman encompasses a man.

¹So if you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. ²Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth, ³for you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. ⁴When Christ who is your life is revealed, then you also will be revealed with him in glory.

⁵Put to death, therefore, whatever in you is earthly: fornication, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed (which is idolatry). ⁶On account of these the wrath of God is coming on those who are disobedient. ⁷These are the ways you also once followed, when you were living that life. ⁸But now you must get rid of all such things — anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive language from your mouth. ⁹Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have stripped off the old self with its practices ¹⁰and have clothed yourselves with the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge according to the image of its creator. ¹¹In that renewal there is no longer Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave and free; but Christ is all and in all!

¹After Jesus had finished all his sayings in the hearing of the people, he entered Capernaum. ²A centurion there had a slave whom he valued highly, and who was ill and close to death. ³When he heard about Jesus, he sent some Jewish elders to him, asking him to come and heal his slave. ⁴When they came to Jesus, they appealed to him earnestly, saying, “He is worthy of having you do this for him, ⁵for he loves our people, and it is he who built our synagogue for us.” ⁶And Jesus went with them, but when he was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to say to him, “Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy to have you come under my roof; ⁷therefore I did not presume to come to you. But only speak the word, and let my servant be healed. ⁸For I also am a man set under authority, with soldiers under me; and I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes, and to my slave, ‘Do this,’ and the slave does it.” ⁹When Jesus heard this he was amazed at him, and turning to the crowd that followed him, he said, “I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such faith.” ¹⁰When those who had been sent returned to the house, they found the slave in good health.

¹¹Soon afterwards he went to a town called Nain, and his disciples and a large crowd went with him. ¹²As he approached the gate of the town, a man who had died was being carried out. He was his mother’s only son, and she was a widow; and with her was a large crowd from the town. ¹³When the Lord saw her, he had compassion for her and said to her, “Do not weep.” ¹⁴Then he came forward and touched the bier, and the bearers stood still. And he said, “Young man, I say to you, rise!” ¹⁵The dead man sat up and began to speak, and Jesus gave him to his mother. ¹⁶Fear seized all of them; and they glorified God, saying, “A great prophet has risen among us!” and “God has looked favorably on his people!” ¹⁷This word about him spread throughout Judea and all the surrounding country.

1 (2) Oigan bien esto,
pueblos y habitantes de todo el mundo,
2 (3) lo mismo los ricos que los pobres,
lo mismo los poderosos que los humildes.
3 (4) Voy a hablar con sabiduría
y expresaré pensamientos profundos;
4 (5) pondré atención a los refranes,
y diré mi secreto al son del arpa.

5 (6) ¿Por qué voy a tener miedo
cuando vengan los días malos,
cuando me encuentre rodeado
de la maldad de mis enemigos?
6 (7) Ellos confían en sus riquezas
y se jactan de sus muchos bienes,
7 (8) pero nadie puede salvarse a sí mismo
ni pagarle a Dios porque le salve la vida.
8 (9) ¡No hay dinero que pueda comprar la vida de un hombre,
9 (10) para que viva siempre y se libre de la muerte!
10 (11) Pues se ve que todos mueren por igual,
lo mismo los sabios que los tontos,
y se quedan para otros sus riquezas.
11 (12) Aunque dieron su nombre a sus tierras,
el sepulcro será su hogar eterno;
¡allí se quedarán para siempre!

12     (13) El hombre no es eterno, por muy rico que sea;
    muere lo mismo que los animales.

13 (14) Así acaban los que en sí mismos confían;
así terminan los que a sí mismos se alaban.
14 (15) Para esa gente, la muerte es el pastor
que los conduce al sepulcro
como si fueran ovejas.
Cuando llegue la mañana,
los buenos triunfarán sobre ellos;
su fuerza irá decayendo
y el sepulcro será su hogar.
15 (16) Pero Dios me salvará del poder de la muerte,
pues me llevará con él.

16 (17) No te inquietes si alguien se hace rico
y aumenta el lujo de su casa,
17 (18) pues cuando muera no podrá llevarse nada,
ni su lujo le seguirá al sepulcro.
18 (19) Aunque se sienta feliz mientras vive,
y la gente lo alabe por ser rico,
19 (20) llegará el día en que se muera,
y no volverá a ver la luz.

20 (21) El hombre no es eterno, por muy rico que sea;
    muere lo mismo que los animales.

1   Te daré gracias, Señor, de todo corazón;
          te cantaré himnos delante de los dioses.
2   Me arrodillaré en dirección a tu santo templo
          para darte gracias por tu amor y tu verdad,
          pues has puesto tu nombre y tu palabra
          por encima de todas las cosas.
3   Cuando te llamé, me respondiste,
          y aumentaste mis fuerzas.

4   Todos los reyes del mundo te alabarán
          al escuchar tus promesas.
5   Alabarán al Señor por lo que él ha dispuesto,
          porque grande es la gloria del Señor.
6   Aunque el Señor está en lo alto,
          se fija en el hombre humilde,
          y de lejos reconoce al orgulloso.

7   Cuando me encuentro en peligro,
          tú me mantienes con vida;
     despliegas tu poder y me salvas
          de la furia de mis enemigos.
8   ¡El Señor llevará a feliz término
          su acción en mi favor!
          Señor, tu amor es eterno;
          ¡no dejes incompleto lo que has emprendido!
