Daily Readings

(1) Instrucción de Etán el ezrahíta.
1 (2) Señor, siempre diré en mi canto
que tú eres bondadoso;
constantemente contaré
que tú eres fiel.
2 (3) Proclamaré que tu amor es eterno;
que tu fidelidad es invariable,
invariable como el mismo cielo.
3 (4) Hiciste una alianza con David;
prometiste a tu siervo escogido:
4 (5) «Haré que tus descendientes
reinen siempre en tu lugar.»

5 (6) Oh Señor,
todos los seres celestiales
alaban tu fidelidad y tus maravillas.
6 (7) ¡Ningún dios, nadie en el cielo
puede compararse a ti, Señor!
7 (8) Dios grande y terrible,
rodeado de seres celestiales.

8 (9) Señor, Dios todopoderoso,
todo el poder es tuyo y la verdad te rodea;
¡no hay nadie igual a ti!
9 (10) Tú dominas el mar embravecido
y aquietas sus olas encrespadas;
10 (11) aplastaste al monstruo marino
como si fuera un cadáver;
dispersaste a tus enemigos
con la fuerza de tu brazo.
11 (12) El cielo y la tierra son tuyos;
tú formaste el mundo y todo lo que hay en él.
12 (13) Tú creaste el norte y el sur;
los montes Tabor y Hermón cantan alegres a tu nombre.
13 (14) Tu brazo es poderoso;
tu mano derecha es fuerte y victoriosa.
14 (15) Tu trono está afirmado en la justicia y el derecho;
el amor y la fidelidad salen a tu encuentro.

15 (16) Oh Señor,
feliz el pueblo que sabe alabarte con alegría
y camina alumbrado por tu luz,
16 (17) que en tu nombre se alegra todo el tiempo
y se entusiasma por tu rectitud.
17 (18) En verdad, tú eres su fuerza y hermosura;
nuestro poder aumenta por tu buena voluntad.
18 (19) ¡Nuestro escudo es el Señor!
¡Nuestro Rey es el Santo de Israel!

¹⁵Manoah said to the angel of the LORD, "Allow us to detain you, and prepare a kid for you." ¹⁶The angel of the LORD said to Manoah, "If you detain me, I will not eat your food; but if you want to prepare a burnt offering, then offer it to the LORD." (For Manoah did not know that he was the angel of the LORD.) ¹⁷Then Manoah said to the angel of the LORD, "What is your name, so that we may honor you when your words come true?" ¹⁸But the angel of the LORD said to him, "Why do you ask my name? It is too wonderful."

¹⁹So Manoah took the kid with the grain offering, and offered it on the rock to the LORD, to him who works wonders. ²⁰When the flame went up toward heaven from the altar, the angel of the LORD ascended in the flame of the altar while Manoah and his wife looked on; and they fell on their faces to the ground. ²¹The angel of the LORD did not appear again to Manoah and his wife. Then Manoah realized that it was the angel of the LORD. ²²And Manoah said to his wife, "We shall surely die, for we have seen God." ²³But his wife said to him, "If the LORD had meant to kill us, he would not have accepted a burnt offering and a grain offering at our hands, or shown us all these things, or now announced to us such things as these."

²⁴The woman bore a son, and named him Samson. The boy grew, and the LORD blessed him.

¹Now during those days, when the disciples were increasing in number, the Hellenists complained against the Hebrews because their widows were being neglected in the daily distribution of food. ²And the twelve called together the whole community of the disciples and said, "It is not right that we should neglect the word of God in order to wait on tables. ³Therefore, friends, select from among yourselves seven men of good standing, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may appoint to this task, ⁴while we, for our part, will devote ourselves to prayer and to serving the word." ⁵What they said pleased the whole community, and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit, together with Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolaus, a proselyte of Antioch. ⁶They had these men stand before the apostles, who prayed and laid their hands on them.

⁷The word of God continued to spread; the number of the disciples increased greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests became obedient to the faith.

⁸Stephen, full of grace and power, did great wonders and signs among the people. ⁹Then some of those who belonged to the synagogue of the Freedmen (as it was called), Cyrenians, Alexandrians, and others of those from Cilicia and Asia, stood up and argued with Stephen. ¹⁰But they could not withstand the wisdom and the Spirit with which he spoke. ¹¹Then they secretly instigated some men to say, "We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses and God." ¹²They stirred up the people as well as the elders and the scribes; then they suddenly confronted him, seized him, and brought him before the council. ¹³They set up false witnesses who said, "This man never stops saying things against this holy place and the law; ¹⁴for we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place and will change the customs that Moses handed on to us." ¹⁵And all who sat in the council looked intently at him, and they saw that his face was like the face of an angel.

¹Now when Jesus learned that the Pharisees had heard, "Jesus is making and baptizing more disciples than John" ² - although it was not Jesus himself but his disciples who baptized - ³he left Judea and started back to Galilee. ⁴But he had to go through Samaria. ⁵So he came to a Samaritan city called Sychar, near the plot of ground that Jacob had given to his son Joseph. ⁶Jacob's well was there, and Jesus, tired out by his journey, was sitting by the well. It was about noon.

⁷A Samaritan woman came to draw water, and Jesus said to her, "Give me a drink." ⁸(His disciples had gone to the city to buy food.) ⁹The Samaritan woman said to him, "How is it that you, a Jew, ask a drink of me, a woman of Samaria?" (Jews do not share things in common with Samaritans.) ¹⁰Jesus answered her, "If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, 'Give me a drink,' you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water." ¹¹The woman said to him, "Sir, you have no bucket, and the well is deep. Where do you get that living water? ¹²Are you greater than our ancestor Jacob, who gave us the well, and with his sons and his flocks drank from it?" ¹³Jesus said to her, "Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, ¹⁴but those who drink of the water that I will give them will never be thirsty. The water that I will give will become in them a spring of water gushing up to eternal life." ¹⁵The woman said to him, "Sir, give me this water, so that I may never be thirsty or have to keep coming here to draw water."

¹⁶Jesus said to her, "Go, call your husband, and come back." ¹⁷The woman answered him, "I have no husband." Jesus said to her, "You are right in saying, 'I have no husband'; ¹⁸for you have had five husbands, and the one you have now is not your husband. What you have said is true!" ¹⁹The woman said to him, "Sir, I see that you are a prophet. ²⁰Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain, but you say that the place where people must worship is in Jerusalem." ²¹Jesus said to her, "Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. ²²You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. ²³But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father seeks such as these to worship him. ²⁴God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth." ²⁵The woman said to him, "I know that Messiah is coming" (who is called Christ). "When he comes, he will proclaim all things to us." ²⁶Jesus said to her, "I am he, the one who is speaking to you."

1 Feliz el hombre
que no sigue el consejo de los malvados,
ni va por el camino de los pecadores,
ni hace causa común con los que se burlan de Dios,
2 sino que pone su amor en la ley del Señor
y en ella medita noche y día.
3 Ese hombre es como un árbol
plantado a la orilla de un río,
que da su fruto a su tiempo
y jamás se marchitan sus hojas.
¡Todo lo que hace, le sale bien!

4 Con los malvados no pasa lo mismo,
pues son como paja que se lleva el viento.
5 Por eso los malvados caerán bajo el juicio de Dios
y no tendrán parte en la comunidad de los justos.
6 El Señor cuida el camino de los justos,
pero el camino de los malos lleva al desastre.
