Daily Readings

1   ¡Cuán hermoso es tu santuario,
          Señor todopoderoso!
2   ¡Con qué ansia y fervor
          deseo estar en los atrios de tu templo!
     ¡Con todo el corazón
          canto alegre al Dios de la vida!

3   Aun el gorrión y la golondrina
          hallan lugar en tus altares
          donde hacerles nido a sus polluelos,
     oh Señor todopoderoso,
          Rey mío y Dios mío.
4   ¡Felices los que viven en tu templo
          y te alaban sin cesar! Selah

5   ¡Felices los que en ti encuentran ayuda,
          los que desean peregrinar hasta tu monte!
6   Cuando pasen por el valle de las Lágrimas
          lo convertirán en manantial,
          y aun la lluvia lo llenará de bendiciones;
7   Irán sus fuerzas en aumento,
          y en Sión verán al Dios supremo.

8   Señor, Dios todopoderoso,
          Dios de Jacob,
          ¡escucha mi oración! Selah
9   Mira, oh Dios, con buenos ojos
          a aquel que es nuestro escudo,
          a quien tú has escogido como rey.

10   ¡Más vale estar un día en tus atrios,
          que mil fuera de ellos!
     Prefiero ser portero del templo de mi Dios,
          que vivir en lugares de maldad.
11   Porque Dios el Señor nos alumbra y nos protege;
          el Señor ama y honra a los que viven sin tacha,
          y nada bueno les niega.

12   Señor todopoderoso,
          ¡felices los que en ti confían!

pues él dio una orden y todo fue creado;

y dictó una ley que no puede ser violada.

monstruos del mar, y mar profundo!
8 ¡El rayo y el granizo, la nieve y la neblina!
¡El viento tempestuoso que cumple sus mandatos!
9 ¡Los montes y las colinas!
¡Todos los cedros y los árboles frutales!
10 ¡Los animales domésticos y los salvajes!
¡Las aves y los reptiles!
11 ¡Los reyes del mundo y todos los pueblos!
¡Todos los jefes y gobernantes del mundo!
12 ¡Hombres y mujeres, jóvenes y viejos!

13 ¡Alaben todos el nombre del Señor,
pues sólo su nombre es altísimo!
¡Su honor está por encima del cielo y de la tierra!
14 ¡Él ha dado poder a su pueblo!

¡Alabanza de todos sus fieles,
de los israelitas, su pueblo cercano!

¹Now Abraham was old, well advanced in years; and the LORD had blessed Abraham in all things. ²Abraham said to his servant, the oldest of his house, who had charge of all that he had, "Put your hand under my thigh ³and I will make you swear by the LORD, the God of heaven and earth, that you will not get a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I live, ⁴but will go to my country and to my kindred and get a wife for my son Isaac." ⁵The servant said to him, "Perhaps the woman may not be willing to follow me to this land; must I then take your son back to the land from which you came?" ⁶Abraham said to him, "See to it that you do not take my son back there. ⁷The LORD, the God of heaven, who took me from my father's house and from the land of my birth, and who spoke to me and swore to me, 'To your offspring I will give this land,' he will send his angel before you, and you shall take a wife for my son from there. ⁸But if the woman is not willing to follow you, then you will be free from this oath of mine; only you must not take my son back there." ⁹So the servant put his hand under the thigh of Abraham his master and swore to him concerning this matter.

¹⁰Then the servant took ten of his master's camels and departed, taking all kinds of choice gifts from his master; and he set out and went to Aram-naharaim, to the city of Nahor. ¹¹He made the camels kneel down outside the city by the well of water; it was toward evening, the time when women go out to draw water. ¹²And he said, "O LORD, God of my master Abraham, please grant me success today and show steadfast love to my master Abraham. ¹³I am standing here by the spring of water, and the daughters of the townspeople are coming out to draw water. ¹⁴Let the girl to whom I shall say, 'Please offer your jar that I may drink,' and who shall say, 'Drink, and I will water your camels' — let her be the one whom you have appointed for your servant Isaac. By this I shall know that you have shown steadfast love to my master."

¹⁵Before he had finished speaking, there was Rebekah, who was born to Bethuel son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham's brother, coming out with her water jar on her shoulder. ¹⁶The girl was very fair to look upon, a virgin, whom no man had known. She went down to the spring, filled her jar, and came up. ¹⁷Then the servant ran to meet her and said, "Please let me sip a little water from your jar." ¹⁸"Drink, my lord," she said, and quickly lowered her jar upon her hand and gave him a drink. ¹⁹When she had finished giving him a drink, she said, "I will draw for your camels also, until they have finished drinking." ²⁰So she quickly emptied her jar into the trough and ran again to the well to draw, and she drew for all his camels. ²¹The man gazed at her in silence to learn whether or not the LORD had made his journey successful.

²²When the camels had finished drinking, the man took a gold nose-ring weighing a half shekel, and two bracelets for her arms weighing ten gold shekels, ²³and said, "Tell me whose daughter you are. Is there room in your father's house for us to spend the night?" ²⁴She said to him, "I am the daughter of Bethuel son of Milcah, whom she bore to Nahor." ²⁵She added, "We have plenty of straw and fodder and a place to spend the night." ²⁶The man bowed his head and worshiped the LORD ²⁷and said, "Blessed be the LORD, the God of my master Abraham, who has not forsaken his steadfast love and his faithfulness toward my master. As for me, the LORD has led me on the way to the house of my master's kin."

³Consider him who endured such hostility against himself from sinners, so that you may not grow weary or lose heart. ⁴In your struggle against sin you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood. ⁵And you have forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as children — "My child, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, or lose heart when you are punished by him; ⁶for the Lord disciplines those whom he loves, and chastises every child whom he accepts." ⁷Endure trials for the sake of discipline. God is treating you as children; for what child is there whom a parent does not discipline? ⁸If you do not have that discipline in which all children share, then you are illegitimate and not his children. ⁹Moreover, we had human parents to discipline us, and we respected them. Should we not be even more willing to be subject to the Father of spirits and live? ¹⁰For they disciplined us for a short time as seemed best to them, but he disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share his holiness. ¹¹Now, discipline always seems painful rather than pleasant at the time, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.

¹After this Jesus went about in Galilee. He did not wish to go about in Judea because the Jews were looking for an opportunity to kill him. ²Now the Jewish festival of Booths was near. ³So his brothers said to him, "Leave here and go to Judea so that your disciples also may see the works you are doing; ⁴or no one who wants to be widely known acts in secret. If you do these things, show yourself to the world." ⁵(For not even his brothers believed in him.) ⁶Jesus said to them, "My time has not yet come, but your time is always here. ⁷The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify against it that its works are evil. ⁸Go to the festival yourselves. I am not going to this festival, for my time has not yet fully come." ⁹After saying this, he remained in Galilee.

¹⁰But after his brothers had gone to the festival, then he also went, not publicly but as it were in secret. ¹¹The Jews were looking for him at the festival and saying, "Where is he?" ¹²And there was considerable complaining about him among the crowds. While some were saying, "He is a good man", others were saying, "No, he is deceiving the crowd." ¹³Yet no one would speak openly about him for fear of the Jews.

1   A ti, Señor, elevo mi alma.
2   Dios mío, en ti confío;
          no permitas que quede confundido,
          ni que mis enemigos se alegren de mí.
3   No dejen que se avergüencen los que en ti esperan;
          se avergüencen los que sin motivo actúan con deslealtad.

4   Enséñame, Señor, tus caminos;
          hazme conocer tus sendas.
5   Guíame con tu verdad y enséñame,
          porque tú eres Dios, mi Salvador,
          y en ti espero todo el día.

6   Recuerda, Señor, tu misericordia y tu amor fiel,
          que son desde tiempos antiguos.
7   No recuerdes los pecados de mi juventud ni mis rebeldías;
          por tu amor, acuérdate de mí, Señor, por tu bondad.

8   Bueno y recto es el Señor;
          por eso enseña a pecadores el camino.
9   Guía a los humildes por el camino recto,
          y enseña su senda a los humildes.
10  Los caminos del Señor son amor y fidelidad
          para quienes guardan su pacto y sus mandamientos.

11  Por amor a tu nombre, Señor,
          perdona mis culpas, que son muchas.

12  ¿Quién teme al Señor?
          Él les enseñará el camino que deben elegir.

13  Vivirán tranquilos,
          y sus descendientes heredarán la tierra.
14  El Señor es amigo de quienes le temen,
          y les muestra su pacto.
15  Mis ojos están siempre puestos en el Señor,
          porque él sacará mis pies de la trampa.

16  Vuélvete hacia mí y ten compasión,
          porque estoy solo y afligido.
17  Alivia mi tristeza,
          y sácame de mis angustias.
18  Considera mi sufrimiento y mis dolores,
          y perdona todos mis pecados.

19  Mira cuántos enemigos tengo,
          y cómo me odian con odio violento.
20  Guarda mi vida, sálvame;
          que no quede confundido, porque en ti me refugio.
21  Que la integridad y la rectitud me protejan,
          porque en ti espero.

22  Sálvanos, Dios de Israel,
          de todos sus problemas.

1   Puse mi esperanza en el Señor,
          y él se inclinó para escuchar mis gritos;
2   me salvó de la fosa mortal,
          me libró de hundirme en el pantano.
     Afirmó mis pies sobre una roca;
          dio firmeza a mis pisadas.
3   Hizo brotar de mis labios un nuevo canto,
          un canto de alabanza a nuestro Dios.
     Muchos, al ver esto, se sintieron conmovidos
          y pusieron su confianza en el Señor.

4   ¡Feliz el hombre que confía en el Señor
          y no busca a los insolentes,
     que no siguen a los que adoran a dioses falsos!
5   Señor y Dios mío,
          muchas son las maravillas que tú has hecho
          y las consideraciones que nos tienes;
     ninguna se compara contigo.
          Si quisiera anunciarlas y hablar de ellas,
     serían más que se puedan contar.

6   No quieres sacrificios ni ofrendas,
          pero me has abierto el oído.
     No has pedido holocaustos ni ofrendas por el pecado.
7   Entonces dije: "Aquí estoy,
          escrito está de mí en el libro."
8   Me deleito en hacer tu voluntad, Dios mío;
          tu ley está en mi corazón."

9   He dado a conocer las buenas nuevas de la liberación
          en la gran congregación;
     no he reprimido mis labios,
          como bien sabes, Señor.
10  No he ocultado tu salvación en mi corazón,
          he hablado de tu fidelidad y tu salvación;
     no he escondido tu amor ni tu verdad
          de la gran congregación.

11  No me niegues, Señor, tu misericordia;
          que tu amor y tu fidelidad siempre me protejan.
12  Porque muchas calamidades me han rodeado,
          demasiadas para contarlas;
     mis iniquidades me han atrapado,
          y no puedo ver;
     son más que los cabellos de mi cabeza,
          y mi corazón desfallece.

13  Señor, ten piedad, líbrame;
          Señor, apresúrate a ayudarme.
14  Que sean avergonzados y confundidos
          los que intentan quitarme la vida;
     que huyan y se avergüencen
          los que quieren hacerme daño.
15  Que se turben de vergüenza
          los que me dicen: "¡Ja, ja!"

16  Pero los que buscan al Señor
          se regocijan y se alegran en él;
     los que aman tu salvación
          digan siempre: "¡Grande es el Señor!"
17  Yo, en cambio, estoy pobre y necesitado,
          pero el Señor piensa en mí.
     Tú eres mi ayuda y mi libertador;
          no tardes, Dios mío.
