Daily Readings

1 (2) Ten compasión de mí, Dios mío,
pues hay gente que me persigue;
a todas horas me atacan y me oprimen.
2 (3) A todas horas me persiguen mis enemigos;
son muchos los que me atacan con altanería.

3     (4) Cuando tengo miedo, confío en ti.
4     (5) Confío en Dios y alabo su palabra;
    confío en Dios y no tengo miedo.
    ¿Qué me puede hacer el hombre?

5 (6) A todas horas me hieren con palabras;
sólo piensan en hacerme daño.
6 (7) Andan escondiéndose aquí y allá,
siguiéndome los pasos,
esperando el momento de matarme.

7 (8) ¿Acaso escaparán de su propia maldad?
Oh, Dios, humilla a los pueblos con tu enojo.
8 (9) Tú llevas la cuenta de mis huidas;
tú recoges cada una de mis lágrimas.
¿Acaso no las tienes anotadas en tu libro?
9 (10) Mis enemigos se pondrán en retirada
cuando yo te pida ayuda.
Yo sé muy bien que Dios está de mi parte.

10     (11) Confío en Dios y alabo su palabra;
    confío en el Señor y alabo su palabra;
11     (12) confío en Dios y no tengo miedo.
    ¿Qué me puede hacer el hombre?

12 (13) Las promesas que te hice, oh Dios,
te las cumpliré con alabanzas,
13 (14) porque me has salvado de la muerte,
porque me has librado de caer,
a fin de que yo ande en la luz de la vida,
en la presencia de Dios.

1 ¡Aleluya!

Canten al Señor un canto nuevo;
alábenlo en la comunidad de los fieles.
2 Alégrense los israelitas, el pueblo de Sión,
porque Dios es su Creador y Rey.
3 Alaben su nombre con danzas,
cántenle himnos al son de arpas y panderos.
4 Porque el Señor se complace en su pueblo;
da a los humildes el honor de la victoria.
5 Alégrense los fieles con el triunfo,
y aun dormidos canten de alegría.
6 Haya alabanzas a Dios en sus labios,
y en su mano una espada de dos filos
7 para vengarse de los paganos,
para castigar a las naciones,
8 para encadenar a los reyes y gente poderosa
con pesadas cadenas de hierro,
9 para cumplir en ellos la sentencia escrita.
¡Esto será una honra para todos sus fieles!

²²These words the Lord spoke with a loud voice to your whole assembly at the mountain, out of the fire, the cloud, and the thick darkness, and he added no more. He wrote them on two stone tablets, and gave them to me. ²³When you heard the voice out of the darkness, while the mountain was burning with fire, you approached me, all the heads of your tribes and your elders; ²⁴and you said, 'Look, the Lord our God has shown us his glory and greatness, and we have heard his voice out of the fire. Today we have seen that God may speak to someone and the person may still live. ²⁵So now why should we die? For this great fire will consume us; if we hear the voice of the Lord our God any longer, we shall die. ²⁶For who is there of all flesh that has heard the voice of the living God speaking out of fire, as we have, and remained alive? ²⁷Go near, you yourself, and hear all that the Lord our God will say. Then tell us everything that the Lord our God tells you, and we will listen and do it.'

²⁸The Lord heard your words when you spoke to me, and the Lord said to me: 'I have heard the words of this people, which they have spoken to you; they are right in all that they have spoken. ²⁹If only they had such a mind as this, to fear me and to keep all my commandments always, so that it might go well with them and with their children for ever! ³⁰Go, say to them, "Return to your tents." ³¹But you, stand here by me, and I will tell you all the commandments, the statutes and the ordinances, that you shall teach them, so that they may do them in the land that I am giving them to possess.' ³²You must therefore be careful to do as the Lord your God has commanded you; you shall not turn to the right or to the left. ³³You must follow exactly the path that the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live, and that it may go well with you, and that you may live long in the land that you are to possess.

¹³But just as we have the same spirit of faith that is in accordance with scripture-"I believed, and so I spoke"-we also believe, and so we speak, ¹⁴because we know that the one who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus, and will bring us with you into his presence. ¹⁵Yes, everything is for your sake, so that grace, as it extends to more and more people, may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God.

¹⁶So we do not lose heart. Even though our outer nature is wasting away, our inner nature is being renewed day by day. ¹⁷For this slight momentary affliction is preparing us for an eternal weight of glory beyond all measure, ¹⁸because we look not at what can be seen but at what cannot be seen; for what can be seen is temporary, but what cannot be seen is eternal.

¹For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. ²For in this tent we groan, longing to be clothed with our heavenly dwelling-³if indeed, when we have taken it off we will not be found naked. ⁴For while we are still in this tent, we groan under our burden, because we wish not to be unclothed but to be further clothed, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. ⁵He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who has given us the Spirit as a guarantee.

⁶So we are always confident; even though we know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord-⁷for we walk by faith, not by sight. ⁸Yes, we do have confidence, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord. ⁹So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him. ¹⁰For all of us must appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each may receive recompense for what has been done in the body, whether good or evil.

¹⁹"There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day. ²⁰And at his gate lay a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, ²¹who longed to satisfy his hunger with what fell from the rich man's table; even the dogs would come and lick his sores. ²²The poor man died and was carried away by the angels to be with Abraham. The rich man also died and was buried. ²³In Hades, where he was being tormented, he looked up and saw Abraham far away with Lazarus by his side. ²⁴He called out, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am in agony in these flames.' ²⁵But Abraham said, 'Child, remember that during your lifetime you received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner evil things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in agony. ²⁶Besides all this, between you and us a great chasm has been fixed, so that those who might want to pass from here to you cannot do so, and no one can cross from there to us.' ²⁷He said, 'Then, father, I beg you to send him to my father's house-²⁸for I have five brothers-that he may warn them, so that they will not also come into this place of torment.' ²⁹Abraham replied, 'They have Moses and the prophets; they should listen to them.' ³⁰He said, 'No, father Abraham; but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent.' ³¹He said to him, 'If they do not listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will they be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.'"

1 Den gracias al Señor, porque él es bueno,
porque su amor es eterno.
2 Que digan los israelitas:
    «El amor del Señor es eterno.»
3 Que digan los sacerdotes:
    «El amor del Señor es eterno.»
4 Que digan los que honran al Señor:
    «El amor del Señor es eterno.»

5 En mi angustia llamé al Señor;
él me escuchó y me dio libertad.
6 El Señor está conmigo; no tengo miedo.
¿Qué me puede hacer el hombre?
7 El Señor está conmigo; él me ayuda.
¡He de ver derrotados a los que me odian!
8 Es mejor confiar en el Señor
que confiar en el hombre.
9 Es mejor confiar en el Señor
que confiar en grandes hombres.

10 Todas las naciones me rodearon,
pero en el nombre del Señor las derroté.
11 Me rodearon por todos lados,
pero en el nombre del Señor las derroté.
12 Me rodearon como avispas,
pero su furia se apagó como fuego de espinos;
¡en el nombre del Señor las derroté!
13 Me empujaron con violencia, para que cayera,
pero el Señor vino en mi ayuda.
14 Yo canto al Señor, que me da fuerzas.
¡Él es mi Salvador!

15 En las casas de los hombres fieles
hay alegres cantos victoriosos:
«¡El poder del Señor alcanzó la victoria!
16 ¡El poder del Señor es extraordinario!
¡El poder del Señor alcanzó la victoria!»
17 ¡No moriré, sino que he de vivir
para contar lo que el Señor ha hecho!
18 El Señor me ha castigado con dureza,
pero no me ha dejado morir.

19 ¡Abran las puertas del templo,
que quiero entrar a dar gracias al Señor!

20 Ésta es la puerta del Señor,
y por ella entrarán los que le son fieles.

21 Te doy gracias, Señor, porque me has respondido
y porque eres mi salvador.
22 La piedra que los constructores despreciaron
se ha convertido en la piedra principal.
23 Esto lo ha hecho el Señor,
y estamos maravillados.
24 Éste es el día en que el Señor ha actuado:
¡estemos hoy contentos y felices!

25 Por favor, Señor, ¡sálvanos!
Por favor, Señor, ¡haz que nos vaya bien!

26 ¡Bendito el que viene en el nombre del Señor!
Bendecimos a ustedes desde el templo del Señor.
27 El Señor es Dios; ¡él nos alumbra!
Comiencen la fiesta y lleven ramas
hasta los cuernos del altar.

28 Te doy gracias y alabo tu grandeza,
porque tú eres mi Dios.
29 Den gracias al Señor, porque él es bueno,
porque su amor es eterno.
