The Assembly Committee on Business Referral got the 225th General Assembly out of the starting gate Saturday morning by approving a handful of routine business items. 

On Saturday night, commissioners will elect a pair of Co-Moderators to represent the 225th General Assembly through June 2024. This year’s Assembly will be a historic first for the denomination — a hybrid meeting taking place virtually and in person in Louisville. The Presbyterian Historical Society welcomes the newly elected Moderators and reflects on the historic elections of past Moderators.

The Rev. Dr. James Reese, a respected and beloved pastor and pioneer in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), died Friday, June 17, after a long illness. He was 98.

Many staff and volunteer roles at the 225^th General Assembly are well known to Presbyterians: Stated Clerk. Parliamentarian. Co-Moderators.

But Zoom Coordinator? Committee Technology Manager? The monstrous-sounding (but really indispensable) “IT” team? Not so much.

Seeking decolonized worship for General Assembly 225 was a value set forth by the Co-Moderators of the 224th General Assembly, Ruling Elder Elona Street-Stewart and Teaching Elder Gregory Bentley. Bentley shared:

On the eve of the opening of the 225^th General Assembly, the Stated Clerk of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) is optimistic. The Rev. Dr. J. Herbert Nelson, II, believes the technological and structural updates at the Presbyterian Center in Louisville will make this hybrid assembly not only successful, but set the stage for future work.
