The Austin Seminary Board of Trustees, at a called meeting on Monday, elected the Rev. Dr. José Ramon Irizarry as the Seminary’s next president.

The tragic deaths of at least 51 immigrants in a trailer in San Antonio loomed large Tuesday for the General Assembly’s Immigration Committee, which prayed for the victims before beginning its formal business and expressed deep sadness. 

The Standing Rules of the General Assembly Committee debated two items of business at length Tuesday, recommending one for disapproval while approving another.

When the Committee on International Engagement kicked off its second day of business on Tuesday, the initial focus was two overtures related to the Korean Peninsula and Presbyterian efforts to engage with partners, both faith-based and secular, toward creating a peace treaty.  

The Ecumenical and Interfaith Engagement Committee approved resolutions denouncing antisemitism and Islamophobia and affirming Interfaith/Interreligious relationships on its second day of business at the 225th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).
