What is the Presbyterian Foundation?
The Presbyterian Foundation is a nonprofit corporation of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). The Foundation was established by the General Assembly of 1795, which authorized the formation of a corporation for the purpose of encouraging voluntary participation in funding “for the cause of ministerial relief and other pious or charitable uses.” The Foundation was given the responsibility to obtain and administer funds for the spread of the gospel and the compassionate work of the church.
Today the Presbyterian Foundation holds the endowments, planned gifts, and mid- to long-term investments of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), or PC(USA), and receives and administers gifts from individuals. In 2011, the Foundation received gifts and deposits of $23.1 million and distributed nearly $66 million in support of various mission projects.
More than 800 people from more than 55 Christian denominations met in Washington, D.C., April 5–9, for the 10th annual Ecumenical Advocacy Days national gathering. Ecumenical Advocacy Days is a movement of the ecumenical Christian community and its recognized partners and allies. Its goal, through worship, theological reflection and opportunities for learning and witness, is to strengthen the Christian voice and to mobilize for advocacy on a wide variety of U.S. domestic and international policy issues. The August 2011 Presbyterian Panel survey questioned a panel of Presbyterian members, ruling elders, and teaching elders about immigration issues and immigration ministries. This report summarizes respondents' engagement with immigrants and immigrant ministries, their attitudes and beliefs regarding current policies, and theological views about citizenship.
The November 2012 questionnaire addresses the issues of violence and war from a Christian perspective. This summary highlights findings from a survey of Presbyterian members, ruling elders, and teaching elders. The questionnaire also asked for respondents' familiarity with various Presbyterian Peacemaking initiatives.
