The Office of the General Assembly recently played host to the moderator of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church in South Africa. The Rev. Dr. Shirilele Patrick Nyambi spent several days meeting with church leaders, including the Rev. Dr. J. Herbert Nelson, II, Stated Clerk of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), and Dianna Wright, interim director of Ecclesial and Ecumenical Ministries.

During the second day of the Just Worship conference at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, those gathered for the worship service were asked a poignant question by the Rev. Dr. Margaret Aymer:  “Can you breathe?”

Mary Jane Veloso has 26 days to provide testimony against her traffickers who are currently on trial in the Philippines. She is the last witness for the prosecution. If she successfully testifies, she may be released from prison in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. If she doesn’t, she will remain on death row, awaiting execution for a crime she did not commit.

The Office of Christian Formation in the Presbyterian Mission Agency partnered recently with the Presbyterian Church Camp and Conference Association (PCCCA) to bring Spanish-speaking camping leaders from the mainland to Campamento El Gaucio in Puerto Rico. For two days, the five-member contingent worked with and learned from staff and board members at El Gaucio, discussing issues like prices, fund development, staffing structures and marketing. 

The Committee on the Office of the General Assembly (COGA) has approved an 11-point plan to help boost financial support for the Presbyterian Historical Society (PHS). Earlier this year, the Rev. Dr. J. Herbert Nelson, II, Stated Clerk of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), challenged COGA and the PHS Board to come up with a new strategy. A task force presented the plan during last week's COGA meeting. 

The Just Worship event began at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary Monday with a rousing worship service punctuated by passionate message on justice from the Rev. Dr. Paul T. Roberts.
