It is mid-winter in Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley, but it is the first month of school for 100 Syrian children. Although the surrounding villages are filled with plenty of school-age Syrian children playing and selling chewing gum in the streets, these kids are glad to be in the classroom, learning to read and write. With the war in Syria now in its fifth year, many of these children were displaced from their homes before they were of school age. For most, this is their first time attending school, ever.

Stated Clerk Gradye Parsons is encouraging all Presbyterians attending the assembly, June 18–25, in Portland, Oregon, to wear a mission T-shirt on Thursday, June 23. It could be a shirt from a youth mission trip, a congregational project such as Habitat for Humanity, or a social justice advocacy event.
“We hope to show the varied, colorful, rich, diverse ways that Presbyterians help people every day,” Parsons says.
The Religion Communicators Council (RCC) has recognized the communications ministry at the Presbyterian Mission Agency of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) for its excellence in several categories. The DeRose-Hinkhouse Award reception was held in New York City on March 31, 2016, in conjunction with RCC’s annual national convention.
May 8 is Mother’s Day and the Healthy Women Healthy Families program, a global poverty initiative of Presbyterian World Mission and Presbyterian Women, is working to honor mothers and children everywhere. The program provides free Mother’s Day or assorted blank notecards to Presbyterian Women’s groups and other mission-minded Presbyterians who distribute the cards in exchange for donations.
Funding through mission program grants by the Presbyterian Mission Agency supports a diverse range of needs and people through ministries being created in new worshiping communities across the country.
