Last fall, the Presbyterian Historical Society (PHS) launched its Pearl online archives. Ten months later, Pearl already features 5,000 virtual items to explore, including rare mission field photographs, foundational church records, and newly digitized audio recordings and motion pictures featuring the likes of Bill Bradley, Edler G. Hawkins, and Carl McIntire.
PHS, the National Archives of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), saves historic Presbyterian documents, media, and artifacts from the ravages of time. Pearl saves time—and money—by providing researchers with virtual access to archival materials. All you need is an internet connection.

The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that one in three women experience physical or sexual violence, most likely from an intimate partner. But a movement of churches and other groups around the world is committed to changing that troubling statistic.
Speaking at a lunchtime gathering at the Presbyterian Center in Louisville on October 18, Dr. Fulata Mbano-Moyo, an organizer of “Thursdays in Black: Towards a World without Rape and Violence,” encouraged United States Presbyterians to add their support to this growing movement. Moyo, who is programme executive for Women in Church and Society with the World Council of Churches (WCC), urged listeners to wear black on Thursdays as a sign of resistance to violence against women and girls.
<한국의><Espaňol> During a meeting with colleagues at the Presbyterian Center, we discussed the ordination questions; the questions that all ruling elders, deacons, and teaching elders are asked at the ordinations and installations. The first one is a doozy, “Do you trust in Jesus Christ your Savior, acknowledge him Lord of and Head of the Church, and through him believe in one God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit?” Of course the answer to this big, big question is, “yes.”
As the gap between rich and poor grows, many of us are aware that we have more than we need. In her new book, More than Enough: Living Abundantly in a Culture of Excess, Lee Hull Moses provides an opportunity to think about the complicated questions of inequality and abundance by providing concrete things we can do to live faithfully and responsibly with the gifts we’ve been given.
Faith leaders, including the Stated Clerk of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), and human rights activists are celebrating a report released Friday by the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Advisory Committee on Family Residential Centers (ACFRC) that could end the detention of families seeking asylum in the United States.
The committee was established in June 2015 to review DHS family detention centers and give advice and recommendations to the department about the operation of these facilities.
Former Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) Moderator Benjamin Weir, who survived 16 months in captivity as a hostage in Lebanon in the 1980s and became a voice for peace and reconciliation in the Middle East, passed away Friday morning in Oakland, California. He was 92.
“I knew Ben Weir as a devoted family man with a humble spirit who possessed a courageous love for the gospel,” said PC(USA) Stated Clerk J. Herbert Nelson, II. “He loved the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and served as Moderator of the General Assembly with a deep sense of humility and compassion for people.”
