The Presbyterian Mission Agency’s office of Theology and Worship will host its second Twitter chat Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015, from 1:00-2:00 p.m. EDT. The conversation will be moderated by the Rev. Dr. Dean Thompson, president and professor of ministry emeritus of Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary.
Presbyterians cannot solve the world’s environmental issues alone. It will take a unified effort from the privileged, those living in poverty, people of different races and cultures. That was the message from the Rev. Dr. J. Herbert Nelson, II at the Presbyterians for Earth Care 2015 Conference in Montreat, N.C.
A quiet, unassuming presence inhabits the citizens of New Orleans. Many came as first responders and remained. Still others stayed and reached out to their neighbors. And thousands were members of work teams who rolled-up their sleeves, helped muck-out after Katrina, and continue today to bring their faith and skills to a city on the rebound.
The 2015–2016 Presbyterian Giving Catalog continues the budding tradition of Presbyterians supporting their church’s ministries through alternative giving, according to the Presbyterian Mission Agency’s manager of Special Offerings.
More than 150 people are enjoying the clear, cool weather in Montreat, N.C., this week for the Presbyterians for Earth Care 2015 Conference. A break from summer heat has made the Montreat Conference Center the perfect stage for the gathering with blue skies, crystal clear lakes and fading green trees. Attendees have come from various churches and presbyteries around the country to participate in workshops, attend plenaries and worship together.
Four new books for leaders are now available through Westminster John Knox Press. While some of these resources provide tools for pastors and church educators, others would be perfect for church group study and reflection.
Excitement is building in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) office of Special Offerings. Although a mid-year increase in One Great Hour of Sharing giving in 2015 is reason enough to celebrate, the Rev. Sally Wright, associate for the Special Offerings Ambassador Program, is thrilled by the response to the recently formed ambassadors group, also known as the Leader Support Network.
<한국어> <Espaňol>The Scriptures are full of the stories of young people, called by God, to be leaders. And not just class presidents or merit scholars—leaders of tribes, prophets of Israel, slayers of giants, judges, apostles, and even a mysterious twelve-year-old, teaching in the temple, Savior. We have the evidence of God’s hand upon young women and men as spiritual leaders. But we might need a few other things to nudge us, remind us, and inspire us.
Heavy snow, flooding, wildfires, earthquakes and tornadoes. Depending on where you live, chances are you have experienced one of these over the course of the year. The disasters in 2015 have cost communities billions of dollars in lost homes, businesses and services. Support organizations have been working non-stop to help families settle into temporary shelters while their damaged homes are being repaired.
