Theologians, ministers, professors and community organizers from across the PC(USA) will gather to develop resources to help further women’s equality and equity in the church during the Study on the Status of Women Theological Consultation Oct. 1-3, at McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago.
International peacemakers from 10 different countries were at the PC(USA) headquarters last week before embarking on a month-long trip to speak on and interpret peace and justice issues to Presbyterian congregations across the country. The group arrived last Tuesday and participated in a comprehensive two-day orientation session in which the agenda included meeting PC(USA) staff, worship and presentation practice before departing Friday to visit their first hosts.
The Presbyterian Mission Agency Board concluded its fall 2015 meeting Sept. 25. The meeting introduced Luis Antonio (Tony) De La Rosa as the incoming interim executive director of the PMA, made financial and mission decisions and looked forward to denomination-wide discussions on the nature of mission in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)

The Presbyterian Mission Agency Board (PMAB) today (Sept. 24) approved a revised mission budget for 2016 in the total amount of $77,499,036, representing a net decrease of $528,168. As it was interpreted to the Finance Committee in its Sept. 23 meeting by Denise Hampton, the PMA’s controller, the revised budget reflects the elimination of 4 staff positions as well as an organizational restructure within the PMA. The revised mission budget also restores $549,164 to the Presbyterian Mission Program Fund (PMPF), the unrestricted cash reserve.
The Presbyterian Peace Fellowship voted last week to divest its endowment of fossil fuel extraction investments during the Fellowship’s national gathering in Stony Point, N.Y. The PPF endowment is invested at the New Covenant Trust Company of the Presbyterian Foundation.
Getting out of jail doesn’t always mean an individual is free to pursue a future. The question over criminal record always stands out on job applications and many argue it has kept them from getting their foot in the door for that first interview. For a group of Massachusetts advocates, that wasn’t good enough. Ex-Prisoners and Prisoners Organizing for Community Advancement (E.P.O.C.A.) says that having a criminal record can decrease the person’s chance of being called for an interview by as much as 67 percent.

Presbyterian World Mission partners are asking for prayers for those affected by the September 16 earthquake off the coast of Chile. Immediately after the earthquake struck, Dennis Smith, Presbyterian World Mission regional liaison for Brazil and the Southern Cone, rallied the support of World Mission Partners, including the Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Chile (IEPCh) and the Evangelical Theological Community (CTE).
