What started out as a fairly calm weather season took a brutal turn in recent weeks as hurricanes once again wreaked havoc on our friends and family. The wrath of Hurricanes Ian and Fiona have left a path of destruction that will forever change the lives of those impacted.
The welcome of people forced to leave their homes to find a new place to live played a role in Jesus’ life and his teachings. Motivated by fear for their son’s safety, Mary and Joseph took Jesus and sought refuge in Egypt (Matthew 2:13-15). Jesus would later proclaim that in welcoming people we do not know, we welcome him (Matthew 25:35). In response, Presbyterians across the country and around the world have been, and are, involved in welcoming refugees as our siblings and new friends. Louisville is no exception.
The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) is mourning the loss of Price Henderson Gwynn. The North Carolina businessman, who served as Moderator of the 202nd General Assembly of the PC(USA), died last week at his home in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was two months shy of his 100th birthday.
