Hymn writer Carolyn Winfrey Gillette wrote this hymn for the Season of Peace to support the work of the Presbyterian Peacemaking Program and the Peacemaking Offering. The hymn is based on the new, free Bible study “The Things That Make For Peace.” The Bible study and the hymn have five movements: recognizing peace, finding peace, practicing peace, extending peace, and living peace. Congregations are encouraged to use both the hymn and Bible study during the Season of Peace, September 9-October 7. Also download a Word version for easy use in bulletins, newsletters, and/or projection.

This Bible study, written by the Rev. Dr. Margaret Aymer, associate professor of New Testament, Austin Theological Seminary, shares stories of sisters and brothers dealing with the impacts of poverty, disaster, racism, and oppression. The study dives into Isaiah 58, calling us to a new kind of fast this Lent, filtered through stories of those assisted through One Great Hour of Sharing. Intended for use with teenagers and adults, the study sees the ways our acts of faithfulness will change the lives of the most vulnerable.
