목사 안수를 받을 때, 저는 평생 알고 지내던 사역 장로 한 분을 초대하여 제게 헌법 질문을 묻도록 부탁드렸습니다. 그분은 제가 어렸을 때 다니던 교회에서 교육자로 봉사했던 분이었습니다. 부모님이 여행을 가실 때면,  그분이 저와 언니들을 데리고 예배를 드렸던 것을 기억합니다. (이 기억을 떠올리면 저는 많은 것이 궁금해집니다: 그분은 어떻게 그렇게 할 시간이 있었을까요? 주일 아침 바쁘지 않았을까요? 그리고 본인들이 없을 때도 우리 네 자매가 예배에 참석하도록 했던 부모님은 예배에 관해 어떤 가치관을 두고 있었을까요?)

Cuando fui ordenada como ministra, invité a una anciana gobernante que había conocido toda mi vida para que me hiciera las preguntas constitucionales. Ella sirvió como educadora en mi iglesia cuando yo era joven. Recuerdo sentarme en la adoración con ella y mis hermanas cuando mis padres estaban fuera de la ciudad. (Tengo muchas preguntas sobre esto: ¿Cómo tenía tiempo? ¿No estaba ocupada los domingos por la mañana? ¿Y qué importancia deben haberle dado mis padres a la adoración para asegurarse de que los cuatro asistiéramos cuando ellos no estaban?)

When I was ordained as a minister, I invited a ruling elder I’d known all my life to ask me the constitutional questions. She served as an educator in my home church when I was young. I remember sitting in worship with her and my sisters when my parents were out of town. (I have so many questions about this: How did she have time—wasn’t she busy on Sunday mornings? And what value must my parents have placed on worship to ensure the four of us attended when they were away?)

Open Hand Ministries, a collaborative effort of four PC(USA) churches in Pittsburgh working to empower Black families living in the Steel City’s East End to build multi-generational wealth, was the featured organization last week on “A Matter of Faith: A Presby Podcast.” Open Hand Ministries’ executive director, Wayne Younger, explained to hosts Simon Doong and the Rev. Lee Catoe how churches can help to empower the communities in which they’re situated.

Do you have a passion for ecumenism? The Ecumenical Institute at Château de Bossey is accepting applications for students interested in taking part in a yearlong study in Bossey, Switzerland.

For more than 75 years, the institute has hosted thousands of students from all over the world in an intercultural community of faith. Through their studies and interactions, participants return home equipped to promote collaboration and dialogue, providing an ecumenical approach to peace and justice work.

On the first full day of kin-dom camp last week, it was evident the impact the camp would have on the 57 campers who identify as LGBTQIA+. 

The PC(USA)’s Office of Public Witness and the Cuba Partners Network are among the organizations calling on the U.S. government to give aid, engage in dialogue and suspend U.S. sanctions following a massive blaze that started last week at the Matanzas Supertanker Base, Cuba’s largest oil storage facility.
