Dec. 2, 2012. It was the first Sunday of Advent and the congregation of Valley Presbyterian Church in Brookfield, Connecticut, gathered in its spacious sanctuary, designed with windows looking out onto the peaceful woods outside. They were there to celebrate the installation of their new pastor, the Rev. Adele Crawford.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at the Presbyterian Historical Society (PHS). To celebrate, PHS is sharing seasonal images from Pearl, its online archives, over social media.

During the 12 Days of Christmas, from December 14 to December 25, PHS will post one digitized image per day. PHS made 4,500 collection items available in 2017 through Pearl, which researchers around the world can explore using desktop computers, smartphones, and tablets. PHS recently introduced 30 new subject-themed collections to Pearl, including “Christmas in the Archives.”

It’s been a week since wildfires broke out in southern California and the fires are still raging out of control. There are currently six separate wildfires burning. The Thomas fire, which started in Ventura County, is the worst of the six and is now the fifth-largest wildfire in California history, according to fire officials.

The Presbyterian Historical Society recently welcomed Ben Chandler of Versailles, Kentucky, and the Reverend Michael Livingston of Trenton, New Jersey, to its board of directors’ class of 2021. With many years of experience serving the public interest through government and nonprofit organizations, Chandler and Livingston bring a shared passion for history to their board leadership.
