To mark the 500th anniversary of the birth of John Calvin, the World Alliance of Reformed Churches has developed a Calvin theme for its annual Lombard Essay Competition.The theme of the competition — which is open to all theology students or pastors 35 years of age or younger — is “What Would Calvin Say? Responsible Stewardship in the Face of Today’s Ecological and Financial Crises.”
Essays must be submitted no later than Sept. 1, 2009. They must address both environmental and financial stewardship.

At its second meeting here in February, the Presbyterian Hymnal Committee spent significant time discussing a theological vision to guide its work.
Before the meeting, a subcommittee drafted the Theological Vision Statement, which focuses on a framework of salvation history — God’s powerful acts of creation, redemption and final transformation — and on the human responses made possible by such acts.

A six-member task force appointed by General Assembly Council chair Carol Adcock to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the Presbyterian News Service(PNS) will hold its first meeting May 11.
The meeting will be by telephone conference call. A face-to-face meeting will be held during the summer. The group — two GAC members and four at-large members — is scheduled to make its report to the September 2009 meeting of the council.
