The Reverend Susan Davis Krummel has accepted a call as interim pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Princeton, Illinois. Her last day as director of Mid Council Relations for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) will be December 31.
“To go through the life of a congregation over a Christian calendar year will be fun again,” she said, adding that she hasn’t done that since fall 2003 when she first started presbytery work.
First Presbyterian Church in Princeton is a congregation of about seventy members, and Krummel will work with them while they search for a full-time pastor.
Krummel said the church asked her what she expected from them. Her answer: to pray about how to use all their resources, to be brave in trying new things, and to not blame people if things don’t work out.
“Sue continues to be an asset to the denomination,” said the Reverend Dr. J. Herbert Nelson, II, Stated Clerk of the General Assembly of the PC(USA). “We wish her well as she uses her gifts and talents to enhance the ministry and mission of First Presbyterian Church.”
Krummel is a veteran church leader who has served at all levels of the church, including as a pastor in Iowa for seventeen years; executive/general presbyter and stated clerk of Great Rivers Presbytery in Central Illinois; a member and moderator of the General Assembly Nominating Committee; and as a commissioner to the General Assembly twice.
Since 2013 she has served as director of Mid Council Relations, a position jointly managed by the Office of the General Assembly and the Presbyterian Mission Agency.
“The challenges for mid councils are not getting any easier, so it is important that mid councils feel supported by the national office, mostly in knowing that there is someone who understands what they are going through,” Krummel said. “I hope that I have been able to do that to some degree.”
Krummel is married to the Reverend Dr. Forrest Krummel, pastor of First Federated Church in Peoria, Illinois. They have two adult daughters, who are both educators, and six grandchildren.
